Italy – Sporting throwback uniforms in honor of Italy’s Throwback Night, the Lady Gladiators entertained fans by relying on some fancy footwork and danced their way to a huge win over the Waxahachie Advantage Lady Eagles.

The only highlight for Eagle fans, who seemed to be moving with two left feet, was a 3-pointer by #12 with 2:45 left in the 1st period. The rest of the opening period was all Lady Gladiators Italy’s #53 Jimesha Reed and #5 Becca DeMoss each had 6-points in the 1st. Shay Fleming added 5-points including a 3-pointer. Reed’s final bucket of the period came off an inbound pass from #45 Megan Richards before the 1st period ended giving Italy a 23-3 lead.

Italy continued their routine in the 2nd period showing no mercy. Everyone was scoring for Italy it seemed. DeMoss added a jumper from the left wing as Reed put points in from the paint. #57 Blanca Figueroa highlighted the period with a score and then a dance all the way back down the floor. The Lady Gladiators juked and jived their way into halftime with a 46-11 advantage.

Halftime

Italy finally did some slow dancing in the 3rd period only scoring 5-points compared to the 23-points they had scored in each of the two previous periods. The scoreboard, hanging like a disco ball from the ceiling of the dome, read 51-14 in Italy’s favor as the Lady Gladiators did the hustle as they moved into the final period.

As if a dance judge walked up and tapped Waxahachie Advantage on the shoulder disqualifying them from the contest, the Eagle’s night had finally ended with a 57-16 loss to Italy. The Lady Gladiators “Basketballroom” Dance In The Dome 2009 was one to remember.
