Last week the Italy Police Department issued a Community Alert notifying residents that the I.P.D. had been receiving information regarding a black female and a heavily tattooed white male knocking on doors at night asking local residents for money. At the time, they seemed to be targeting the elderly but Chief Johns wanted everyone to be aware.

Friday, January 30, the I.P.D. received complaints that the woman in question was impeding traffic on Ward street trying to stop passing cars and asking them for money. The female suspect was detained by the I.P.D. and, consequently, arrested after having a warrant out for her arrest from Ellis County.

There has been no activity regarding the male suspect for a couple of weeks, therefore, Chief Johns has cancelled the Community Alert.

As a reminder, if anyone is ever knocking on your door that you do not personally know, leave the doors locked and immediately dial 911.

Chief Johns requests that under no circumstances should anyone give them any money and would rather that everyone keep their doors locked and dial 911 immediately. Simply explain to the operator the situation. For example: That you are home alone and that there is someone at your door that you do not know.

So remember, if anyone is knocking on your door that you do not personally know, leave the doors locked and immediately dial 911. The Italy Police Department covers its local jurisdiction 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
