Meals on Wheels Volunteer Forum held at Monolithic
Tuesday morning, February 10th, Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis County had a forum at the Monolithic Offices. Shanna Dunn (Ellis County Volunteer Co-Ordinator for Meals on Wheels) and Lisa Hicks (Community Division Co-Ordinator for Meals on Wheels) brought breakfast to the Monolithic Domes for all the Ellis County Volunteers. Meals on Wheels has a Volunteer Forum four times a year and this time they came to Italy.
The Volunteer Forums are a time for new and old volunteers to come together and get to know each other and learn more about the Meals on Wheels program.
Lisa Hicks said, “We are serving 750 clients in Ellis and Johnson Counties. We are growing so rapidly that we need more volunteers and need the community’s support.”
Many ideas were discussed on how to get new volunteers such as having a friend ride along with you when you deliver your meals, and let people at church know about the need for volunteers for Meals on Wheels.
A new program, “Wheels For Meals”, was also discussed. This program works like this, if you have an unwanted vehicle, no matter what the condition, simply call Meals on Wheels to donate the vehicle. Meals on Wheels will pick up the vehicle running or not. It is tax deductible and the donor receives a receipt of the amount the vehicle was purchased for. It is a convenient and easy way to help those most in need. If you would like more information, please call 817-558-2840 or 972-351-9943.
The month of March is dedicated to “March for Meals.” It is usually the Wednesday during spring break. On this day, Mayors, and state representatives deliver meals.
Ellis County volunteers are needed for Ennis, Bardwell, Ferris, Maypearl and Midlothian. Fill-ins are also need. If you would like to help deliver meals call: 972-3581-9943.
