On Sunday, February 8, 2009, the Ellis County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recognized seniors from each school in Ellis County. Tyler Boyd, son of Ricky and Monica Boyd, is the Italy High School student that was selected as one of the recipients of the award this year.

The DAR recognizes high school seniors who possess good qualities of citizenship, dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their schools and communities. Each award is given on a merit basis including completion of a questionnaire, essay, scholastic record and a letter of recommendation.

The local chapter of the DAR held a tea in honor of this year’s recipients. Tyler was accompanied by his parents and Doreen Hester, one of the special people in his life. He also invited three of his favorite teachers as his honored guests.

Vivian Moreland has taught Tyler for two years and is his student council sponsor. Tina Richards has also taught him for two years and is his National Honor Society (NHS) and University Interscholastic League (UIL) sponsor. Marjorie Bridge has been Boyd’s teacher for three years and sponsors the NHS and small school competitions.

“I am so glad that Mrs. Moreland, Mrs. Richards and Mrs. Bridge accepted my invitation to attend with us. It was very important to me for them to be there. I wanted them to know they are special and that I appreciate everything they have done for me,” said Boyd.
