Boy Scouts of America in Italy
Did you know the Boys Scouts of America are in Italy? It’s a small group of young men but strong in spirit. This school year they have sold popcorn, helped area churches with different programs, hosted a canned food drive for the local food pantry and have lots more ideas for the rest of the year.
The group is headed up by Gwen Dorman, Webelo’s leader, along with Cub Scout Master, Jimmy Brandon. There are other adults helping, including the boy’s parents and family. Gwen is very excited about Pack 227, “The kids learn leadership and they have fun doing all kinds of projects.”
They boys have recently been involved with Troop 1880, a Civil War reenactment group from Dallas, where they camped overnight at Beaumont Ranch in Granview, Texas. They learned about tents, cooking over an open fire, hiking, blacksmithing, nature conservation and period games. They are currently selling cookie dough to help with camp costs this summer.
If your son is interested in being a boy scout and he is under the age of 11 and finishing 5th grade this year, contact Gwen at 214-399-3092 or email [email protected]. The pack will have an awards ceremony this Wednesday, March 4 and you are welcome to attend. They meet at First United Methodist Church every Wednesday at 124 Harpold at 7:00 pm.
