IHS Academic Banquet, why old gold shines bright

Tuesday night around 7:00 pm, faculty, parents, family and special guest, Wanda Scott, gathered at the multi-purpose dome at Italy High School to see honored students receive accolades for their grades. The 26th Annual Academic Banquet was underway.

Valedictorian of the class of 2009 and Top Ranking Student is Tyler Boyd. Michael Vlk was named as Salutatorian. Presentations of awards were given by Jimmie Malone and Scott Herald. Students honored were:

Miller congratulated — Cheerleader, tennis ace and bookworm, Lexie Miller, is all smiles as she is presented her awards from Principal Herald.

Melissa Smithey — Although, Melissa Smithey enjoyed running up the score on basketball opponents this year, Melissa’s I.Q. score may be her most impressive numbers.

Kelli Strickland — Kelli receives her second year award from Mr. Herald.

Ivan pulls it off — Ivan Roldan receives his first year award.

Josh Milligan — Josh receives his second year honors from Mr. Herald.

Jessica Hernandez — Jessica received her first year award from Mr. Herald.

Shelbi Gilley achieves — Shelbi Gilley is estatic after receiving her academic achievement medal.

Mind and Muscle — Exercising her mind as well as her muscle is Kaytlyn Bales, powerlifter turned braniac?

Susana Rodriguez — Susana recieves her 1st year award from Principal Herald.

Holden holds back — Jase Holden fights back the tears as Principal Herald honors him with a medal for being way, way, way above average! Nice job, Jase.

Kaitlyn Rossa medals — After being named basketball’s Newcomer Of The Year and earning multiple medals for running the 1600m and 3200m races on the track, Kaitlyn Rossa has medalled again. Beauty, brains and she’s only a Freshman.

Brandon Owen — Brandon received his third year medal.

The Boyd’s Celebrate — Ricky and Monica Boyd enjoy the Valedictorian award with their son, Tyler.

Pillars of success — These academic pillars of success keep Italy ISD standing tall.

Maybe they’re 24 carat? — I wonder what we can get for these? Perhaps an academic scholarship to college guys!
