Avalon Elementary Awards Banquet
The Avalon Elementary Awards banquet was held on Tuesday in the Avalon Dome gym. After the students enjoyed a delicious complementary dinner -hot dogs, chips, cookies, and sweet tea, the awards banquet got started. Superintendent, Mr. David Del Bosque welcomed all excited students, smiling parents and enthusiastic teachers while introducing everyone to Miss Margaret Day, Avalon’s Elementary Principal.
Miss Day gave the first awards of the night to all the students who had perfect attendance this year. Also Mr. Del Bosque was proud to present one special parent with the Volunteer Award. Mrs. Gill has shown remarkable passion for helping Avalon ISD in every way possible. The community of Avalon is very proud to have her.
The students were recognized for their many achievements throughout their 2008-2009 school year. All teachers made a point to make sure every one of their students felt appreciated and proud of themselves. Some of the awards that the younger students received were: Citizenship, Physical Education, Top Speller, Most Improved and Best Listener among many more. For the older students there were additional awards for: Social Studies, Arts, Music, Math, Reading and English.
Proud parents cheered and snapped numerous pictures throughout the night. Students smiled, played and showed off all their awards, but it wasn’t over yet.
Ms. Denise Wimbish, the Elementary Librarian, came to the podium to present the Accelerated Reading (AR) Awards and the Read to Succeed Awards. After handing-out the Highest AR Points Award, Ms. Wimbish surprised the Reading to Succeed Award winners. For all their hardwork and dedication, the recipients received their award and tickets to Six Flags!!!
Students were jumping up and down with excitement. Well the students enjoyed their awards and surprises, Mr. Del Bosque ended the banquet by thanking all the parents and teachers for working together to make Avalon ISD the best school for their students.
While walking through the crowd of people leaving the banquet, you could hear parents and teachers saying, “This has been an incredible year.”
