It’s A Grand Old Flag
Have you been by the Italy Cemetery lately? If you have I am sure you have noticed the beautiful flag pole with the United States of America flag waving in the wind. The folks with the Italy Cemetery Association decided it was time for a flag.
Jo Ward and her husband Jim looked long and hard for just the right flagpole and flag and finally found it. Jo said it took a little longer to find the light for the flagpole but it is installed now and shinning bright on our flag.
Jo Ward is the secretary for the Italy Cemetery Association. “The flag and flag pole add a lot to the Italy Cemetery. It also lets people know we appreciate the soldiers that died for our freedom.”
If you have not seen the flag you should drive by the cemetery and check it out. It is especially awesome at night with the lights shinning brightly in the dark lighting up our flag – a beacon in the night.
George M Cohan said it best:
You’re A Grand OLD Flag
You’re a grand old flag
You’re a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You’re the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev’ry heart beats true
‘neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there’s never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.
