On Tuesday night, at the conclusion of the parent meeting with Ms. Parker, the new principal at Italy High School, the Athletic Booster Club past president, Becky Milligan, addressed the parents, “If you are a parent of an athlete or support Italy athletics, we invite you to join the Booster Club. The club has new fundraising ideas and we want to build a program that will keep building.”

Along with new fundraising ideas, the Booster Club is responsible for two main events each year. “One is the Athletic Banquet in the spring and also the senior athletic scholarships,” Milligan explained. “The Booster Club has given $13,000 in scholarship money in the last two years. Eight scholarships in 2008 and five in 2009. All thirteen of these students are currently attending college.”

Milligan also explained the Booster Club will help with Homecoming, concession stand sales, placing the football tunnel on the game fields and special needs throughout the school, as the administration and coaches deem necessary.

The first fundraiser will be the programs sold at the home football games. Parents, businesses and supporters are asked to purchase ads in the 2009 program. “There are four different sizes and prices,” Becky explained. However, the time to purchase them is now. The programs will print before the game against Maypearl (Friday, August 28).

“We want to bring tradition back to Italy High School. We want all students to be proud to be a Gladiator,” Milligan said.

The next meeting is Tuesday, August 25 at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria. Everyone is invited.
