The Avalon Eagles, JV and Varsity Six-Man Football squads, scrimmaged the Bynum Bulldogs in Bynum on Friday, Aug. 21st. Avalon is starting it’s 3rd year in organized football and has a win/loss record of 18-21.

The purpose of this scrimmage was to allow each team to run offensive and defensive plays repeatedly against another on offense and defense. The two teams competed in two quarters as if in a real game.

Avalon’s coaching staff consists of Head Coach Cody Davis, Atheltic Director Kris Marshall and Assistant Coach James Cashion.

Avalon’s Sophomore Quarterback Calyn Davis will be leading the Eagles this season but will not be alone in navigating the Eagle attack. Spreadback Jeremy Knight against Apple Springs back in 2008 rushed for 255 yards and passed for 448 yards in the same game.

Avalon has a home game, marking their season opener, this Friday, Aug. 28 at 7:30 pm vs. Waxahachie Eagle Advantage. Last season, Waxahachie Advantage outlasted Avalon by a score of 44-38. Needless to say, Avalon will be playing with a chip on their shoulder on Friday.

In fact, one of Coach Davis’ famous quotes addresses this very moment:
“The heart of a champion does not lie on the inside, it lies on the chip of his or her shoulder.

Go Get ’em Eagles!
