Eight year old Karson Holley had a great summer. Part of what made her summer great was the opportunity she had to deliver Meals on Wheels on Wednesdays with her grandmother, Francis Holley (Gran). Because of her dedication to helping the elderly, Karson was selected as this month’s Citizen of the Month.

When asked how she did Meals on Wheels Karson said, “Gran would come and pick me up at my house and then we would go to the City hall and get the food and drinks. Gran and I went together up to the houses and gave them their food.” She went on, “It was fun, lots of times they were waiting by the door for their lunch. Sometimes I would be given gifts, one time someone gave me a stuffed pig.”

Kristie Holley (Karson’s Mom) said, “They put the sign up in our yard and for three days we didn’t know who it was for. I came home from school Monday and I could see when I turned down the road that there was one of the signs in the yard. It just tickled me to see the Citizen of the Month sign. When Kyle got home from basketball I asked him if that was his sign outside. Kyle said he didn’t know anything about that sign. It made me giggle everytime I thought about it. We just assummed it was Kyle’s because of summer league and lots of other things he was involved with in the community in the summer. So, Wednesday when Francis went to City Hall to pick up the Meals on Wheels, Mayor Frank Jackson said to be sure and tell us that the sign for Citizen of the Month was for Karson for delivering Meals on Wheels.”

When Karson was asked how she felt about being selected Citizen of the Month she said, “I feel good about it, but I thought it was Daddy’s sign. I thought it was pretty funny that we thought it was Daddy’s sign and it ended up being mine. When my parents found out the sign was for me they were very proud. It was even more special because it happened in my birthday month. I felt very shy at first when I found out it was for me. I plan on doing Meals on Wheels next summer too because it is so much fun helping people and I enjoy visiting them.”

Congratulations Karson Holley – Citizen of the Month!
