Jennifer Holley, Avalon ISD’s new fifth grade teacher
“In college I really wanted to be a research scientist. I really wanted to find the new cure for some disease. I wanted to be an ethanol botanist. I did undergraduate research in medicinal plants and then I thought I would go to graduate school to continue this study. Then when I started hanging out in the labs it was kind of boring and all by yourself. I lost interest. And that is when my Mom said, ‘You would make a great teacher’, and that started me on my career path of being a teacher,” explained Jennifer Holley, Avalon ISD’s new fifth grade teacher.
Holley graduated from UTA of Arlington with a bachelor’s of science degree in biology. At the end of her bachelor degree she started taking education classes. Over this summer Jennifer became certified to teach fourth through eighth grade general education.
“I was working at St. John’s in Ennis until it closed. I was really sad when St. John’s closed. Everyone told me to go check out Avalon ISD because Mr. Delbosque is awesome and you will love the school. So I did. My little boy Cole started school there and just loved it. I was hired as an aid for the three year olds pre-school program. When a fifth grade teaching position became available I was offered that position, so here I am,” laughed Jennifer.
Jennifer has been married to her husband Steven for twelve years and they have one child, eight year old Cole Holley. In her spare time Jennifer is her son’s cub master for his cub scout group. Jennifer and her family love to travel, hunt, hike, and camp. They like to do anything having to do with the outdoors.
“I love kids. All ages of children are a lot of fun. I like to be a part of when they finally grasp something that we have been studying. That moment for me is the best part of teaching. I think it is a privilege to be a part of their growing experience. I really like it here at Avalon ISD. It is such a friendly environment, the kids are so comforable here, there is always encouragement and everybody has an open door policy. It is a really great place to work. I wouldn’t mind staying here forever and I love the fifth graders!”
Welcome to Avalon ISD Jennifer Holley, we are glad you are here!
