C-Team (K-2nd):
The IYAA C-Team Gladiators, head coached by Gary Wood, rematched the Scurry-Rosser Wildcats Saturday and successfully avenged last year’s playoff loss to the Wildcats 25-0.

C-Team’s hard hitting defense was led by Christian Cole, Holden Schrotke and Ricky Pendleton. Tyvon Gates and Jaiden Barr were strong at the cornerback positions while Gage Wafer and Bryce DeBorde held their own as defensive ends.

Ja’Sean Brooks and Michael Gonzalez bring toughness to the middle of the C-Team defensive line. Pendleton and Cole had two takeaways against the Wildcats as well.

Will Brooks, Dustyn Rose, Julius Wilson, Omar De La Hoya, Joe Jackson and Darrin Jackson contributed to the defensive shutout, as well as playing key roles on the special teams.

On offense, Gonzalez had another good game at center allowing Pendleton to shred the Wildcat secondary by completing 3-passes, including a bomb to Cole who beat double coverage for a touchdown. Blocking out of the backfield and the athletic catch for a score earned Cole Player Of The Game honors for the C-Team.

B-Team (3rd & 4th) 31-8 win
Ken Norwood’s B-Team had a score to settle with the Wildcats after last seasons playoff loss to Scurry-Rosser as well. Quarterback Tylan Wallace and backs Taron Smith and Kendrick Norwood were unstoppable against the Wildcats. In fact, only two things stopped B-Team’s backfield on Saturday, the goal line and offensive clipping penalties.

Smith ran like a mustang out of the B-Team backfield on his way to being chosen Player Of The Game by Coach Norwood.

Big plays were turned in by Ryder Itson, James Mcintyre and Jaylon Davis who had a big catch and run down to the 2-yard line before the game ended.

Defensively, Italy played like giants, against the taller Wildcats, relying on team tackling to keep Scurry-Rosser off the board until late in the 4th quarter. The B-Team’s record is now 2-0 after defeating the Wildcats 31-8.

A-Team (5th & 6th)
Jason Escamilla’s A-Team defense played outstanding on Saturday against the Wildcats. Thanks to some gritty goal line stands, Italy was in the game at halftime, trailing only 12-0 to a talented Wildcat squad.

Austin Maynard kicked off to the Wildcats to start the second half and raced downfield to strip the ball from the Wildcat return man. Spinning the returner around, Maynard came out with ball and ran it in for the A-Team’s first touchdown of the 2009 season. The amazing “turn of events” made the score 12-6 keeping Italy within striking distance.

Quarterback Ryan Connor and tailback Ken Norwood, Jr. played well but the A-team offensive was unable to cross the stripe. A-Team’s defense played inspired throughout but the undefeated Wildcats eventually won 26-6.

Maynard’s amazing scoring play and relentless effort on both sides of the ball earned him the A-Team’s Player Of The Game distinction.
