Milford’s National Night Out
Even predictions of rain could not stop the citizens of Milford from coming out and supporting the Milford Police Department and the City of Milford on Tuesday night – National Night Out. They even set a record, approximately three hundred fifty Milford folks showed up to be a part of the festivities and show their support.
There were lots of activities going on. The Milford Depot served free hot dogs to all kids under the age of twelve, there was a bounce house, a bungee pull for kids and a pie in the face booth starring Police Chief Carlos Phoenix. Chief Phoenix was quite a hit with all the kids. They could not wait to get a chance to throw a pie in his face. Thanks to a Milford citizen who made a large contribution the kids did not even have to pay for this chance.
We cannot forget the live music performed by Milford’s own Standing Stones band from the First Baptist Church and singers from Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. The tent for the band was donated by Anvil and Hammer Creations.
Every year Milford citizens choose a Milford “Grouch” and a Citizen of the Year. This year’s Citizen of the Year was Fadys Gates and the Milford “Grouch” was none other than Milford’s Fire Chief, Mark Jackson.
There were many who had booths such as: the Milford Cheerleaders, the D.C. Kids (raising money to go to Washington D.C.), the One Act Play, Titus Women’s Club and the Milford Volunteer Fire Department.
Other groups that were there supporting Milford’s National Night Out was the Ellis County Sheriffs Department, Trinity Mission Health and Rehab of Italy and the Homeland Security Federal Police.
All in all, even inclement weather could not keep the citizens of Milford from supporting their town and having a good time. Looking forward to seeing everyone there next year.
