Mark Jackson teaches fire safety
Mark Jackson, Milford volunteer fire chief, and his volunteers presented fire safety tips for Milford elementary students Thursday.
Jackson and his volunteers acquainted children with a fire fighter in full garb so that they would recognize them as someone to help them should they ever be involved in a fire. Jackson explained that because of the breathing apparatus firefighters wear, children are often afraid and will hide from them.
Jackson also taught the children correct procedures for reporting a fire and how to get out of a burning building safely. Students enjoyed getting an up close look at the fire truck and fire fighting equipment.
Jackson also provided coloring books to help reinforce the fire safety lessons taught.
