Italy’s National Night out was held Tuesday night at the George Scott gymnasium at the Italy High School. It was postponed from last Tuesday because of rain. There still was rain but it didn’t stop the fun.

There were several booths such as: The Texas Army national Guard booth,Trinity Mission of Italy booth, Drug Awareness and Education booth, and a Child Identification booth.

Sargeant Adams is with the Texas Army National Guard and is the recruiting assistant for this region. He said, “We are here to make contacts and answer any questions.” Sargeant Teresa Denelly was there assisting him and said, "I am here recruiting for the Army National Guard.

Chris Baker headed up the Trinity Mission booth and said, “I am glad to be out here tonight to support our police department. They are always willing to help out at Trinity Mission with whatever functions we have. In fact we are doing a small appreciation for them on Tuesday October 20th.”

Officer Pitts headed up the Drug Awareness and Education booth. He said, "We are trying to educate everyone on all of the different drugs, what they do and the effects of them on your body and your brain.

Officer Escaval with the Glenn Heights Police department volunteered to come over and do the child ID kits. He said, “I am here to hand out and assist parents with the ID Kits. There is a simple form to be filled out by the parents, the kids will be finger printed, and there is a DNA swab kit in there and I show them how to do that. The parents then keep this on file.”

Beside the booths, there was a jump house, a cake walk and a tic-tac-toe toss game. Children were winning lots of prizes and there were lots of smiles.

C.V. Johns (Police Chief of Italy) was there and said, “We had to postpone this last week because of rain. It is still raining so there aren’t too many here. We are glad for the ones that came. This is where the citizens and the police come together so they know what the police are about and the citizens can express their concerns to us. It is a time of community fun.”

All in all those that braved the weather had a great time.
