IYAA posts 3 shutouts against Dawson
C-Team (K-2nd):
The IYAA C-Team Gladiators clobbered the Dawson Bulldogs 31-0 improving their season record to 4-0 with all 4 wins being shutouts. Defensively, Levi Stark recovered one fumble and Ja’Sean Brooks stripped another to help the C-Team keep their unscored on record in tact.
Quarterback Ricky Pendleton scored 3 touchdowns to lead the C-Team offensive attack. Pendleton was unstoppable scoring each time he carried the ball although a fourth touchdown was negated by a holding penalty.
The winless Dawson team had yet to score a touchdown this year so Coach Gary Wood used the opportunity to share the football in the backfield. Tyvon Gates showed his skills on a run to the right as well as catching a pass for a touchdown thas was also called back due to a holding call.
Holden Schrotke added a one-point conversion for the C-Team while Brooks crossed the goal line twice to round out the scoring.
As great as all that sounds, it was first grader Bryce DeBorde who put on a show and wowed the Italy fans on both sides of the ball. Deborde side-stepped two Bulldogs on his way to a 40-yard run to the Dawson 10-yard line. The effort was the longest run of Deborde’s young career in this his second season on the C-Team.
DeBorde was a devasting lead blocker on Saturday as well and was selected by fans as C-Team’s Player Of The Game.
B-Team (3rd-4th):
Coach Ken Norwood’s B-Team left no doubt in Dawson posting their 2nd shutout of the 2009 season, 22-0, while boosting their unbeaten record to 5-0.
Loaded with talent, the B-Team has an arsenal of accomplished running backs and defenders. Kendrick Norwood, Tylan Wallace, Taron Smith, James McIntyre and Rider Itson are the primary weapons, but their not the only ones.
Defensively, Jaylon Davis, Jacob Wiser, Cason Roberts, Cade Roberts, Corbin Schrotke all pitched in to help shutdown the Bulldogs.
With his relentless play and seemingly all over the field against Dawson, the fans selected James McIntyre as this week’s Player Of The Game for the B-Team.
A-Team (5th-6th):
Ken Norwood, Jr. led the charge against Dawson with assistance from Austin Maynard, Issac Salcido, Joseph Celis and quarterback Ryan Connor who also scored a rare two-point safety for the A-Team defense in route to a 22-0 shutout.
Coach Jason Escamilla’s team is 2-2 on the season after back-two-back wins. A new winning formula and an inspired group of young Gladiators have transformed the “Tenacious Eleven” into a threat in their division.
Explosive running and a defensive interception earned Ken Norwood, Jr. A-Team’s Player Of The Game once again.
Congratulations to all three IYAA football teams and their cheerleaders for a job well done in Dawson. The IYAA will face Hubbard next Saturday in Italy with the C-Team starting off the day at 9:30 a.m., the B-Team will follow that game at 11:00 a.m. and the A-Team will play in the finale beginning at 12:30 p.m.
