Last week, Italy High School celebrated “Red Ribbon Week.” Each day of the week there was an assigned theme designed to support a greater message: “Don’t use Drugs.”

Monday all students were asked to wear red. Red shirts, red pants, red caps, OH MY! When asked what ‘Red Ribbon Week’ meant to her, the Principal Ms. Tanya Parker reponded with much excitement, “I think its a great way to express our feelings about drug and alcohol abuse through a more productive and positive outlet.”

Tuesday was College Day. Themed “Have a future, don’t do drugs!” From Texas to Ohio and even Hawaii, colleges from everywhere were represented. Collin Westbrook, a sophmore, when asked “Why he sported an assortment of colleges?,” answered with a smile, “Well my family is A&M, but I like other colleges too. So I figured why not wear an A&M hat and backpack with my Ohio State Jacket?”

On a normal school day, sweats are against dresscode, but not Wednesday, because “Living drug free is no sweat” was the theme. Many students complained, “Why can’t every day be Sweats Day?” The school atmosphere was much more comfortable and relaxed.

Like a scene from “Grease,” the high school was flooded with hair greased back, leather jackets and cuffed jeans. Thursday’s theme, “Sock it to drugs” said enough.

Friday, the day before halloween the theme was “Drugs are scary, so dress up in your scary costume!” The understatement of the year; Dress up in your ‘scary’ costume? Blood and guts is more like it. Faces painted, clothes torn, zombies, fairies and princesses were roaming the halls of Italy High School.

The actors and actresses from the ‘Necro-plex’ showed up in their gorey get-ups. Goldilocks and all three of the bears even made an appearance.

Those whom didn’t do their make-up at home came to school and got their faces painted by the Art Club for a small fee.

But the students were not the only ones to dress up… Mr. Malone dressed as a referee, Mrs. Boyd dressed as a Valedictorian, and Mrs. Carroll dressed as a waitress; proving that Halloween isn’t just for the kids!
