The Italy Police Department served as backup to the Texas DPS Highway Patrol during an undercover drug bust when a commercial bus was pulled over near the Tiger Mart off of Hwy. 35 in Italy on Friday, October 30.
The patriotically decorated blue bus operated by Autobus Regiomontanos, Int., and was adorning images of the Statue of Liberty, white stars and a crescent moon, a perfect veil for a drug smuggler to hide. Passengers were evacuated and all of the cargo was searched.
A lone suspect was arrested for being in possession of 15 lbs. of marijuana. The remaining travelers were allowed back on the bus to continue toward their destination.
