7th Grade Girls vs Irving North Hills:
Italy Center Jaclynn Lewis put in two free throws to give her 7th grade team an early 2-0 lead. In fact, Lewis had 6 of her 7-points in the opening period as she and Madison Washington were already showing signs of dominance on the boards.

Helping their team jump out to an 11-0 advantage by the end of the 1st period, point guard Tara Wallis added a free throw and a 2-pointer along with a K’Breona Davis medium range jumper.

Irving North Hills matched Italy’s height but they were unable to mirror their quickness as defenders Bailey Eubank, Kortnei Johnson and Ana Luna hounded INH dribblers.

Reagan Cockerham, Mackenzie Goodwin-Davis, Bailey DeBorde and Kelsey Nelson supplied even more fire power for Coach Richards as the 7th grade girls continued to full court press.

In the 2nd, Washington scored on back-to-back buckets, in the paint, while Wallis and K. Davis each added another basket each. However, an Alex Minton free throw and then a 3-pointer highlighted the period as the 7th grade girls enjoyed a 21-3 lead at the break.

Minton added a 2-pointer in the 3rd along with a Lewis free throw as the ladies in gold began pulling away. Johnson scored a basket in the 3rd to increase Italy’s lead to 27-3 heading into the 4th.

Wallis and Minton scored baskets again in the 4th period along with a free throw by Kierra Wilson to finish off Irving North Hills 31-5 and improve their season record to 1-1.

Scoring Stats:
2 Tara Wallis, 6-points
4 K’Breona Davis, 4-points
11 Alex Minton, 8-points (1 free throw + 3-pointer)
12 Kortnei Johnson, 2-points
32 Madison Washigton, 4-points
41 Jaclynn Lewis, 7-points (3 free throws)

8th Grade Girls vs Irving North Hills:
Monserat Figueroa scored 6-points in the 1st period, including 2 made free throws, to give Italy’s 8th grade girls the lead 6-5 over Irving North Hills going into the 2nd period.

Figueroa scored again in the 2nd as well as Kendra Copeland and Bernice Haley who both added baskets to help keep Italy in front 12-7 at halftime.

K. Copeland and Haley added another basket each in the 3rd along with a third Figueroa made free throw. Ryisha Copeland scored 4-points as well, to cushion the lead 21-11, going into the final period of play.

North Hills didn’t lay flat as they held Italy scoreless in the 4th. Unfortunately for INH, they could only manage 4-points in the final minutes which just wasn’t enough. Italy’s 8th grade girls held on for the win 21-15 and improve their season record to 2-0.

Scoring Stats:
13 Kendra Copeland, 4-points
14 Ryisha Copeland, 4-points
22 Bernice Haley, 4-points
