The Lady Gladiators test improved basketball skills against Mildred

Italy’s 2009 Lady Gladiator “Bionic” Basketball Team tested out their improved skills in Mildred Tuesday. With a year under their jump shots and fundamentally and mechanically rebuilt by Head Coach Stacy McDonald, these female cyborgs from Italy are aggressive, energetic and determined.

Led by 19-points from the bionic right shooting arm of Megan Richards (including three 3-pointers and 4-of-6 from the line), and 15-points from power center Jimesha Reed, the Lady Gladiators overwhelmed Mildred 59-46.

Coach McDonald had this to say about her Varsity girls, "We are very aggressive, but young, so mistakes will be made. But being more aggressive is how we will win most of our games this year and it showed in Mildred.

The JV squad had a strong opening night as well but their 4th quarter comeback came up short as Mildred held on for a 27-23 win.

Chante Birdsong commented on her JV’s performance, “We stayed close at first and then Mildred began pulling away. We started playing better as a unit and got back into the game as the 2nd half went on but they (Mildred) did just enough to win.”

Schedule Change – Friday night in Chilton:

The Lady Gladiator Varsity squad will play in Chilton Friday, November 20. Chilton will be unable to suit up a JV squad so there will be no JV game.

Instead, only the Lady Gladiators Varsity squad will play and the game has been moved up to a 5:00 p.m. start time.
