Before the basketballs are stored away and the uniforms packed in moth balls, the Italy Junior High girls had two more games to play against Hampton Prep.

For the 8th grade girls, Monday marked their final basketball games as Junior High players as they will move up to the JV level next season. For the 7th grade girls, it would be one last chance to show their competition what to expect from Italy’s 8th grade squad next year.

Italy’s 7th grade girls:
Green acres is the place to be! Some with their hair pinned back and others in pig-tails, the 7th grade girls united as a team Monday and took care of business against the Hampton Prep Lady Phoenix.

Hampton Prep didn’t seem to be enjoying country life as Italy’s down home girls, coached by Tina Richards, responded to the pre-game buzzer like it was the dinner bell and took the court hungry for a win.

After maintaining a lead the entire game, Italy’s country girls began milking the clock to close the gate on a Hampton Prep comeback.

When the final buzzer crowed, Italy’s 7th grade girls were on top 29-22 over the Lady Phoenix. It’s always nice to finish the season with a win, Yee-Haw!

Italy’s 8th grade girls:
Italy’s 8th grade girls were not very hospitable to Hampton Prep either. Although the game proved physical at times, Italy managed to win by 19-points, 31-12.

When Taylor Turner, who left the game with a concussion, was asked to comment on the game she said, “I can’t remember the game.” And that gives you an idea of just how physical the game was.

Good luck to the 8th grade girls next season as they move up to the Italy JV Lady Gladiator squad. Go get ’em!
