Wednesday the Stafford Elementary students participated in Hoops for Heart and Jump Rope for Heart during their PE classes. Students got donations from family and friends for the American Heart Association and then jumped rope for as long as they could – shot a lot of baskets, all for a good cause.

I had the pleasure of sitting in on Angie Janeck’s fifth grade PE class and these students were having a lot of fun and boy could they jump rope and shoot baskets!

One of the jump rope contests was “Whose Rope Turns the Longest” – who can jump the longest. The girls were up first. It was down to the wire between Vanessa Cantu and April Lusk, both were marathon jumpers. April Lusk was the winner- jumping three and a half minutes.

Next the fifth grade boys were up and boy could they jump. After lots of jumping it finally came down to Kevin Johnson and Isidiro Perez. Kevin Johnson jumped rope for four minutes and was declared the winner.

Angie Janeck explained, “We are doing Hoops for Heart and Jump Rope for Heart. The fourth, fifth and sixth graders will all do hoops and jump rope. The third graders will only do jumprope. The students are raising money for the American Heart Association, having fun and getting exercise all at the same time.”

Another wonderful day at Stafford Elementary. Keep up the good work!
