Italy — Wednesday night, the Lady Gladiator Softball team took to the diamond against the McGregor Lady Bulldogs in a friendly scrimmage. Courtney Westbrook pitched the entire way for Italy and Julia McDaniel remained behind the plate.

Head coach Jennifer Reeves shuffled around the rest of the fielders working several first year players into the rotation. On a cold evening for softball, McGregor’s hitters blasted a few shots into right field to heat things up building a 5-2 lead over Italy.

McDaniel’s jogged out to the mound several trips in order to settle her picture in. Westbrook began to find her rhythm at the mound and Italy’s hitters began to make some noise at the plate.

McDaniel and Bailey Bumpus were a big part of the rally as was Drew Windham and Freshman Anna Viers who crossed home plate twice during the contest. With a large crowd to cheer on the home team, the Lady Gladiators completed the comeback and tied the scrimmage with McGregor 5-5.

Go Lady Gladiators!
