Lady Gladiator Softball gets into the swing of things against Rice
The Gold Standard — The Lady Gladiators Softball team is off to a fast start this season thanks to strong senior leadership and consistent play from pitcher Courtney Westbrook.
“Courtney has been working hard to improve and this, her Senior year, seems to be a culmination of all three previous seasons finally coming together. Her biggest improvement is in the accuracy of her change up but she’s been extremely accurate with her pitching overall. Her decision making process has matured as well, selecting the right pitch to throw based on game situations and batter ability,” said coach Jennifer Reeves.
Coach Reeves also added, “Our Freshman girls are already contributing as well. Anna Viers, for example, is probably our fastest most aggressive base runner. Plus our hitters are already off to solid start. I told the team this game against Rice would set the standard for our season and we won it 9-1. We’re not starting from scratch, we’re picking up were we left off last year.”
As Coach Reeves continued to smooth down the sand around home plate after the win over Rice, she went on to say, “The team really played well tonight. We are already clicking on all cylinders. We’re gonna be strong in the playoffs.”
The Lady Gladiators will be in a tournament this weekend in Waxahachie. All of the games will be played at the Sports Complex off of Broadhead Road.
