Italy High School senior, Dan Crownover, was awarded a $10,000 scholarship at the San Antonio Stock Show last Saturday when his heifer, May May, was chosen as Grand Champion over 76 other animals. She beat out 308 heifers and was selected as the Grand Champion at the Ft. Worth Stock Show earlier this year.

“I was so excited when I found out we had won,” said Crownover. “May May and I work as a team. She really looks good in the ring and I like showing her off. ”

May May is a 20 month old heifer that is expecting her first calf later in the year. Crownover plans to show her at the Houston Stock Show in March. Hopefully, they will do as well there as they have in Ft. Worth and San Antonio and have the honor of winning the Triple Crown.

Dan began showing cattle when he was 8 years old. He is proud to be a member of Ellis County 4H. He enjoys working with his animals and preparing them for shows.

“I am very happy to have the $10,000 scholarship,” Crownover said. “I have been accepted at Texas Tech and plan to major in Ag Communications.”

Dan is the son of Dale and Julie Crownover of Italy and the grandson of Bernyce Crownover of Waxahachie.
