IYAA basketball Week 7 – Making swishes come true!

The IYAA’s Week 7 of basketball was packed with thrilling shots, expert ball handling, precision passing and plenty of smiling faces. The players have been working hard in their practices resulting in big moments during the games. Good luck to the players and coaches as the season comes to an end….Finish Strong!

Italy 9 (1st & 2nd Coed), coached by Deloris Harris, won big over Hillsboro Orange by a score of 20-9. The “Harris Hoopsters” were on fire from the floor as they won the rematch by hitting jump shot after jump shot. Point guard Cornelius Jones lead Italy 9 with 12-points, Michael Gonzalez put in 5-points and Reese Janek swished a jumper for 2-points.

Bryce DeBorde scored 1-point as well while Destiny Harris continues to be a force on defense. Also, Xander Galvan and Zorian Burley helped dribble the ball up the court to ensure Italy 9 got that “W” in the win column!

Italy 14 (3rd & 4th Girls), coached by Jerry Glenn, fell short of a victory after being outscored by Hillsboro Maroon 16-10. Hannah Haight lead Italy 14’s offensive attack with 3-points while big sister Grace Haight scored 2-points. Point guard Annie Perry scored 2-points as did Chardonae Talton.

Jashiryan Lacy added 1-point while getting help defensively from, the always smiling, Elisha McClendon, a determined Carlee Wafer and ultimate rebounder Virginia Stephens.

Chalk up another win for Italy 30 (5th & 6th Boys) coached by Andrea Windham and assisted by Scott Connor. “Windham’s Warriors” held on to win the high scoring affair 52-45 over Hillsboro Blue.

Levi McBride accounted for 20 of Italy 30’s 52-points, including a 3-pointer in the 2nd quarter. Ryan Connor scored 13-points and Ty Windham added 7-points. Caden Petrey put in 6-points, Jorge Galvan scored 2-points as did David DeLaHoya. James Walton and Cole Falzerano scored 1-point each while Thomas Crowell disrupted Hillsboro’s shooters.

Italy 25 (5th & 6th Girls) coached by Olympia Williams and assisted by Vincent Anderson made it look easy with a 30-8 win over Hillsboro Blue on Saturday.

Shercorya Chance scored 10-points, Aarion Copeland put in 8-points and Oleshia Anderson made 5-points. Lyric Brooks and Quintera Washington scored 2-points each while Taylor Henery, Kimberly Mata and Christy Murry all put in 1-point each. Moesha Griffin, Lizzie Garcia and Jasmine Hernandez worked hard at defense holding Hillsboro Blue to just 1 field goal for the entire game.

Italy 21 (3rd & 4th Boys) coached by Edwin Wallace, continued their winning ways with a 32-20 victory over Italy 20 coached by Scott Rodgers and assisted by Aaron Itson. In a well played basketball game, Italy 21’s Taron Smith scored 16-points, Al Waits put in 6-points, Tylan Wallace 4-points, and Cade Roberts added 3-points. Trevor Mott, Gary Escamilla and Cason Roberts all put in 1-point as well while Austin Lowe and Steven Davis helped rebound..

Leading the scoring effort for Italy 20 were James Walton and Ryder Itson who scored 5-points each. Payton Gray put in 3-points and Garrett Janek scored 2-points. Mikey South hustled on both sides of the court while Ty Hamilton, Stockard Smithwick, Ethan Rodgers, Alex Hernandez and Alex Garcia accounted for 1-point apiece during the game.

Hillsboro game results:
Italy 24 coached by Barry Byers and assisted by Monica Lambert, started with a 10-6 lead over Hillsboro Black after all twelve girls on the Italy 24 squad made their pre-game layup worth one point each. The team could only get credit for 10-points since the Hillsboro roster was just 10 players.

Ashlyn Jacinto, Brooke DeBorde, Lillie Perry, Janae Robertson, Raven Harper, Cassidy Childers, Jennifer McDaniel, Jozie Perkins, Halee Turner, Decorea Green and Peyton Henderson put in eleven in a row before Hannah Washington put in the final pressure filled shot to help Italy 24 get off to a perfect start.

DeCorea Green finished with 5-points including a late 3-pointer to lead Italy 24 in scoring but Hillsboro Black knocked down several free throws during the contest to win 25-19 in another exciting game between these two teams..
