Frost — The Italy Lady Gladiators Softball Team singed the fur on the Lady Polar Bears in Frost on Tuesday. Italy exploded out of the batters box to cook the Bears in 5 innings, 14-0.

Eight separate Lady Gladiators crossed the plate during the heated, yet one-sided, matchup. Anna Viers scored 4 times including a homerun and Bailey Bumpus made it home 3 times as the pair accounted for half of Italy’s scoring.

With all their weapons back in place, Italy’s hitters were relentless, often connecting on the first pitch. Courtney Westbrook, the Richards’ sisters, Megan and Alyssa, Meredith Brummett, Drew Windham, Alma Suaste, Mary Tate, Bumpus and Viers continued the attack all game.

While the Polar Bears defense was plagued with unforced errors, Italy’s defense lead by Westbrook on the mound and Alyssa Richards behind the plate, were rarely tested.

Desperate to make something happen, a Frost runner was caught in a run down between first and second base. The excitement was short-lived as Windham threw to Bumpus who joined the play from center field to tag the hapless Polar Bear before reaching second base.

That sums up the game for Frost as Italy’s dominating performance gives the Lady Gladiators a 2-1 record in district play.
