Students to compete in Regional Academic UIL

Fourteen students from Italy High School will compete in 16 events at the regional academic UIL competition Saturday, April 24, at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches. Three additional students will attend as alternates in four events.

The top three placing students in each contest at the district UIL contest in Cleburne March 26-27 qualified for the regional meet. Regional qualifiers and their district placings are:

Brandon Souder, 1st place; Shelbi Gilley, 2nd place; Sierra Harris, 3rd place; and Tonelsa Hughes, 4th place in Accounting. The accounting team won first place overall in district.

Shelbi Gilley, 1st place; Destani Anderson, 2nd place; and Tonelsa Hughes, 3rd place in Computer Applications.

Lexie Miller, 1st place Feature Writing; Megan Richards, 3rd place Editorial Writing; and Amber Mitchell 3rd place Headline Writing. The journalism team placed second overall at district.

Josh Milligan, 2nd place Persuasive Speaking; Kelli Strickland, 3rd place Persuasive Speaking; Kaitlyn Rossa, 3rd place Informative Speaking; Molly Haight, 2nd place Poetry Interpretation; Jaleecia Fleming, 3rd place Poetry Interpretation; and Melissa Smithey, 3rd place Prose Interpretation. The speech team placed second overall in district.

Students who will attend regionals as alternates are Susana Rodriguez, 4th place News Writing; Mary Tate, 4th place Headline Writing; Lexie Miller, 4th place Editorial Writing; and Gus Allen, 4th place Prose Interpretation.

Others who placed in the top six at the district meet were Ross Stiles, 5th place Persuasive Speaking; Destani Anderson, 5th place Informative Speaking; Bianca Evans, 6th place Prose Interpretation; and Brandon Owens, 5th place Mathematics.
