Unstoppable Gladiators take care of business
The Italy Gladiator Varsity was visiting Waxahachie Faith Family at the Waxahachie Sports Complex on Friday. This is the second time this season they have faced each other in district play. As the game unfolded, it became evident this Italy baseball club cannot be stopped. By the second inning, the Gladiators were in the lead by 4 and by the final inning, the boys ran over the Eagles 16-0.
This makes Italy 8-0 with only four games left in district. Justin Buchanan pitched this game with a “no walk around the plate through strikes,” Coach Coker remarked. “He did a great job on the mound.” Coach Coker is very proud of his team and commented on how focused they stay, “The team has had a lot of distractions this week. Some of them participated in track and we only had one full time practice in a week’s time. I feel in this game their approach got better later in the game but they came to take care of business and that’s what they did.”
By the top of the fourth, the points were mounting on the score board. Brandon Souder(#17) stole home on a wild pitch and with a little bit dust flying, the umpire called Brandon safe. Ethan Simon(#9) followed suit with a steal to home, along with Colton Campbell(#14) and Desmond Anderson(#5). Dan Crownover(#6) ran a single with the help from Caden Jacinto (#2). Then Ethan Simon came up to bat again. “Hefty Lefty” Simon hit a double and brought in Jase Holden(#3), Trevor Patterson(#7) and Brandon Souder. The whole team worked hard and put 16 points on the board and held the Waxahachie Faith Family at bay with 0.
The next varsity ballgame will be against Waxahachie Advantage at the Waxahachie Athletic Complex located at 1101 Broadhead Road on Tuesday, April 13 beginning at 7:00 pm. Everyone is invited to Wortham on Monday, April 12 to enjoy the JV baseball team play beginning at 4:30 pm.
