There is nothing happier than a graduating high school senior with a scholarship and there were several seniors jumping for joy at Italy High School on Tuesday. The administration wants the under classmen to know they can achieve the same thing.

In a spirited assembly at the dome on Tuesday morning, IHS Principal, Tanya Parker, invited the student body to sit in graduating year groups. The seniors were on the floor and the rest of the students were in the stands. It was an incredible way to present the seniors their scholarships—in a room full of their peers and also have a “teaching moment” for the future grads.

The following are prerequisites for honor graduates and National Honor Society students to be presented a rope or collar.

The cord is for honor graduates. To be an honor graduate you had to take a fourth science and social studies with an overall average of 85. (These qualifications will change NEXT year now that “4 by 4” is in place).

The collars are for seniors in the National Honor Society, have completed the year with an 88 average in core classes, 40 community service hours, participated in either One Act Play, Small Schools Competition, or UIL events, and have not violated any character infractions.
