Italy High School values the National Honor Society program at their school. With scholarship, service, leadership and character as the basis for membership selection, quality students are springing up all over school.

The NHS met on Tuesday night for the annual induction of new members. Also, officers were installed during the course of the evening.

The membership is more than an honor roll. The chapter establishes rules for membership that are based upon a student’s outstanding performance in different areas. A student must have a cumulative grade point average of 85 percent (3.0 on a 4.0 scale). The quality of service is defined through the voluntary contributions made to the school or community, without compensation and an enthusiastic, positive spirit. Good problem solvers or promoters of school activities are clearly good leaders. They are idea-contributors and dependable. The student of good character upholds principles of morality and ethics and is cooperative, honest, shows courtesy, concern and respect for others. These are national standards set by the National Council of the NHS.
