Tour d’ Italia circles the countryside
Approximately 1300 bicyclists, young and old, converged upon Italy High School and rode the 25th Annual Tour d’ Italia bicycle event on Saturday. This cycling event happens every year in Italy and the cyclists enjoy the countryside and the warm welcome from Italy residents.
Italy High School coaches cooked an all-you-can-eat spaghetti supper, pancake breakfast and hamburgers, chopped beef sandwiches and hot dogs for a small fee. Even some of the locals decided to set up shop by either having a garage sale or a lemonade stand.
The routes included 12, 30, 40, 50 and 63 miles around Italy. This tour benefits Italy High School by generating scholarships for our graduating seniors. Also, it helps Mothers Against Drunk Driving and other North Texas charities.
After riding in the Texas heat, the participants enjoyed free snow cones, Dr. Pepper and a shower at the high school.
