Letter to the Editor: The Korean War

60 years ago the Korean War began and cost over 30,000 American lives. While the war has never officially ended we have allowed it to be forgotten by many Americans. In some cases it’s not even a footnote in the history books.

But for those men who fought in that very cold terrain, many who had made it through World War 2, and many more who had never heard of Korea, it was a very long war, far away from the world they were used to. The women who served had never been intentionally placed so close to combat. But their service at those surgical and EVAC hospitals saved countless lives.

If you are a Korean War veteran please make sure you pass your story on to your children and their children. If you have a grand-parent or great grand-parent who is a Korean War veteran, please ask them to tell you their story.

Thanks to all of you for your service.
