So many parents, so many students with lots and lots of school supplies could be seen at Avalon ISD during their Meet the Teacher Night. Just about every child had huge smiles and hugs for teachers.

Margaret Day (principal) said, “This year the kids are going to improve their math scores and they are going to up their vocabulary. We are going to be preparing for the new STAR test that will be coming next year. It is taking the place of the TAKS test. We are going to up our level of performance, so we are going to begin preparing for it this year. We have been told the STAR test is going to be harder and it is going to be a higher level thinking test. We are starting this new school year with positive thinking and high goals and can’t wait to get started.”

Sherry McCullough (music, art and P.E. teacher) said, “I was in CB & I last year and this year I am teaching music, art and physical education. I am looking forward to sharing music, singing and art with the students. I have a lot of new ideas for art and crafts for the students to do so I am really excited to get started.”

Debra Nelson, (first grade teacher) said “The objective for this year is to do a super good job with our super kids.”

Cissy Durrett (kindergarten teacher) said, “I have fifteen wonderful students and I am looking forward to a wonderful year. We have a lot of new things to learn, a lot of new fresh activities and a lot of new faces.”
