Letter to the Editor: Teacher’s disgraceful attitude
I am appalled at the res-ponce I received from a teacher at the Italy ISD this week after returning to town from a business trip.
My wife and I both members of the Texas Military Forces,(Texas Army National Guard). A job we do not take lightly. She works in the Medical Command and I have been in for some 17 yrs. I have also served as Police officer in this County, City and neighboring Cities. She serves a a full time Nurse having worked in Local Emergency rooms Prenatal care units and Director of Nurses. Neither of us are lacking in the ability to care for or see to the need of our children.
I and 250 others are currently looking at a deployment to the Texas Mexico Border, in order to help provide security to the State and US border due to violence along the Rio Grand. In order to do this we have to go through a process that checks soldiers readiness for the mission there for Medical, Legal,& Fiance personnel are needed to make a mission work. Therefore we both were out of town for a week.
My oldest Daughter 23 was in charge of our home with our 16 & 13 yr old children all are capable of taking care of them selves. However in our absence the first week of school which we regret never the less unavoidable.
My wife and I return home to find out 13 yr old received a 0 for a grade that all he had to do was bring it home and have it signed. My son explained to this Teacher that his parents were out of town for Military service and the Teacher stated that’s just an excuse.
Just as the Flags that fly over our businesses being torn a tattered is a disgrace we find the attitude like this may be welcome in other towns cities and countries. This is the US and as a Citizen Soldier balancing Home life and year long deployments no matter overseas or here in our great nation this attitude is uncalled for and inappropriate for a school teacher who is supposed to be understanding and leaders of our community not to mention molding the minds of our future warriors, mayors, governors, senate, congress and maybe even President. With this pride in our country displayed in our class rooms makes me wonder are we failing to teach our children in our homes or has our schools and their lack of support for our country making this wonder full county go to the dogs. Well this DOG bites back.
I will take this grade to the Principal, Superintendent and School board if necessary.
