Avalon ISD Cheerleaders go to Florida
Six out of the eight cheerleaders for the Avalon Eagles received the honor as “All American” at cheerleading camp which entitles them to participate in a parade in Florida.
Cheerleading camp was held in June. All eight Avalon Eagles cheerleaders attended camp along with their coach Cindy Cashion and assistant coach Patty Hernandez.
At camp the girls were evaluated on dance, stunt, tumbling and jumps. Each cheerleading team went through an evaluation process each evening on the material learned that day preparing them for the final evaluation and camp awards.
Cindy Cashion (head coach of the cheerleaders) said, “This is the first time I have had six cheerleaders qualify for this honor and because I had six qualify this time we have decided to participate in the parade. The six cheerleaders that qualified are: Chelsea Nelson (senior), Sydney Davis (senior), Brittany Mageors (senior), Heather Boone (sophomore), and Ella Presley and Mikalla Wimbish (both freshmen). This is my fourth year going to camp and I usually always have one or two qualify but this year we had six. We will be in Florida December 2nd and will stay for four days and three nights. The school will pay for half of the trip and we will be doing fundraisers, raffles, bake sales, what ever it takes to raise the other half.” Cashion went on to say, “We will be televised on ABC on Christmas morning.”
Patty Hernandez (assistant coach) said, “We will receive a dvd with a routine on it and the girls have to know the routine before we leave for the parade. It will be fun but it will also be a working trip. Once we get to Florida the whole day will be spent practicing the routine with all the other cheerleading teams. The evenings will be free to go and play. It is going to be a great experience and one they will always remember.”
Cashion braggingly said, “I am ecstatic, I am so pleased with my cheerleading team. They are hard workers and they were competing with 5-A schools and still came out on top.”
