Erika Larsen and her sister Sydney Lowenthal from Italy are both performing in a production of Fiddler on the Roof with the Waxahachie Community Theater.

Fiddler on the Roof is a musical set in Tsarist, Russia in 1905. The story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman and his five strong willed daughters, Tzeitel, Hodel, Chava, Shprintze and Bielke.

Erika Larsen plays one of the sisters, Hodel. Erika explained, “I love my part. It is fun. Hodel sings, she falls in love with a student from one of the bigger cities, she is very feisty and a free thinker.”

Larson has been in theater since she was twelve. The latest productions she has performed in are, “Pride and Predjudice”, as Lydia Bennent and in the chorus in the musical “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” both at Stolen Shakespeare Guild in Fort Worth.

Erika explained that she always had an interest in theater, “I just like singing so much that I just wanted to find an outlet for that other than just choir.”

Larsen is currently being classically trained to sing opera by Darlene Marks in Fort Worth and has taken acting lessons in Dallas with a company called Stage.

Sydney Lowenthal (Erika’s sister) has a part as one of the villagers. Sydney is in the third grade at Stafford Elementary. When asked what she liked best about being in the play, she replied, “Wearing the costume. It is white with flowers and I wear a bandanna scarf that goes over your hair and ties in the back and I get to sing most of the songs.”

The production of Fiddler on the Roof will take place Friday and Saturday, October 22nd and 23rd at 7:30 pm and on Sunday, October 24th at 2:30 pm at the Chautauqua Auditorium at Getzendaner Park, Waxahachie.

Tickets at the door are: $12.00 for adults and $10.00 for seniors and students. If you purchase advance tickets you will save $2.00 per ticket.
