What is a Monolithic Dome anyway? Of course, it is strong, round building made of shotcrete (air entrained concrete), rebar and as an insulation, polyurethane foam. It withstands high winds up to 300 miles per hour. The Domes have successfully been through hurricanes, fires, earthquakes and tornadoes located all over the world and according to FEMA, is “near-absolute protection”. Survival is the key word here. Also, the fact that it takes 50% less to heat and cool this structure, is enough to make the weakest decision maker come out and “kick the tires” and see what this all about.
The Domes at Interstate 35 consists of a central office, training center, manufacturing plant, private homes and rentals. Probably a bit more than you knew. The fun fact of the day is Monolithic will be open on Saturday, October 16 from 10am-4pm for the 10th Annual National Monolithic Dome Home Tour-and it’s free!
There will be 5 private homes open, as well as the office, visitor’s center, training center and the kids’ favorite caterpillar. It is a come-and-go walking tour, so bring a pair of comfortable shoes and enjoy a cup of lemonade with us. Monolithic is also selling BBQ plates and sandwiches on site. Come on out and enjoy.
If you are using a GPS, the physical address is 177 Dome Park Place, Italy 76651 or call our office for directions at 972-4583-7423. We are located off of Kinfolk Lane-the road that lies beside Sonic and the Smokehouse in Italy.
Keep thinkin’ round.
