Worn U.S. flags flying in Italy, Texas

Recently the ItalyNeotribune received a letter from a concerned Italy citizen regarding worn out United States flags being flown in our community. Unfortunately, I could not locate any written rules as to what is considered “worn out” but did find the following statements on usa-flag-site.org:

  • The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary.
  • When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner.

More information regarding the etiquette of the U.S. Flag can be found here: The United States Flag: Federal Law Relating to Display and Associated Questions

Hey, thanks for posting this…we go through flags, mostly because my husband chooses to have an eagle at the top of the pole, and we buy them cheap at WalMart. The library in Waxahachie has a bin that folks can put their worn flag in so they will be disposed of properly…I think the VFW does the actual tending to for that.
In case folks, didn’t know, thought I’d speak up!
Have a great weekend!
