Jane Medrano was in shock when she learned she was selected as the Italy ISD Employee of the Month. “I was thoroughly shocked when I was told I was receiving this award. I feel privileged and honored.”

Jane Medrano will be recognized as Employee of the Month for the month of March. This award is selected by the superintendent and Superintendent Williams will give her the award at Monday night’s school board meeting.

Jane graduated from A&M Commerce with her bachelors degree in mathematics and her masters degree in Elementary Education and teaches fifth grade reading at Stafford Elementary." I actually went to school and specialized in mathematics and am also certified in Special Education. Reading is also a passion of mine so teaching it works out great." She feels that teaching runs in her family, “I followed in my fathers footsteps. He is a chemistry and physics teacher in Floydada, Texas. When my father remarried, he married my English teacher and so teaching runs in the family,” she explained.

Jane has two children, Jerri Ann and Cody. Jerri Ann attends McClendon County Junior College and Cody is a freshman in high school.

When asked how she felt about teaching at Stafford Elementary, Medrano replied, “I don’t live in the community, I live in Milford, but I feel very welcomed here, great people, great hospitality, everyone wants to work together for the betterment of the school and the children. I think we are a good district and I think we will grow stronger. Over all I just feel honored, it is a privilege to work here.”

Jane always wanted to teach, she said, “When I was a little girl I would change my mother and father’s bookshelves into a library. I would make my own little library cards so I could stamp the dates. I always played school while my sisters were tomboys and athletes. I was always more the ‘girly’ girl. I have always just known that I would someday be a teacher and I just love it.”

The goal for her students is to be life long learners. "I want the students to just have the willingness to try something new and to learn something they didn’t know before and to expand their horizons. Just to be healthy, strong and productive adults. Working is honorable but learning and imagination can take you anywhere. I hope that I inspire them to pick up a book and to read it and to imagine or dream and become anything they want to be.

Medrano said, “I would like to say thank you to the parents, the school board, the principals, and my fellow staff members. It is an honor to be here and I enjoy everyday coming to work here and working with the people I am surrounded by, children included, they make our job worth waking up for everyday.”

Congratulations on Employee of the Month, Jane Medrano!
