Creative Gladiators display Italy High School’s artsy side
This year, Rodeo Austin offered a new Eco Art Show in which all project entries had to be made out of recyclable materials. On March 24, 2011 judges awarded Cruz Enriquez a 3rd place with his welded floor lamp in the 14-18 year old class and Zac Mercer earned a 3rd place with his Mountain Dew® table in the 9-13 year old class.
The Eco Art – Youth Recycling Contest’s intention is to educate the public of using/buying recycled products and to encourage people to recycle. Exhibitors are encouraged to recycle any material to make a new functional or decorative item.
At least seventy percent (70%) of the materials used in the creation of the entry had to be recycled. Recycled is defined as those materials that have been discarded and can be used again such as plastics, glass, Styrofoam, newspaper, magazines, cardboard, paperboard and old used items and parts, etc. Reclaimed materials such as woods, metals, and fabrics were allowed as well.
Each item was judged according to the following criteria:
- Title – 5 points
- Description – 15 points
- Documentation of recycled material – 15 points
- Intended functionality accomplished – 15 points
- Workmanship – 25 points
- Creativity – 25 points
Both students worked very hard on their projects and were excited to place so high with so many entries to compete against. Congratulations on a job well done, Cruz an Zac!!!
