The Gladiators traveled to Clifton on Tuesday night to represent Italy in the fifth game in district play. They came to perform well and it showed, according to Head Coach Josh Ward.

“We all knew going into the game that Clifton was a very good team. Clifton is always very good at baseball. I thought that our kids were ready to play and we showed that in the early innings. I told the kids that we could not afford to give a good team like Clifton extra outs in innings because they will capitalize. That has been the story of our season so far, giving teams extra outs and not being able to prevent one or two big innings. In the game of baseball, one or two bad innings on defense is usually the difference between winning and losing. We have to work harder at preventing the big inning. We have to take the approach that we want to win every inning. We have shown flashes of how good we can be, we just haven’t been able to put it all together yet. I know how good we can be, and I still have confidence that we will get this going in the right direction.” This quote came from Coach Josh Ward after the game on Tuesday night. The Gladiators succumbed to the pressures of the Clifton Cubs and the game was lost 14 to 4.
