Italy students having strong showing during Ellis County Youth Expo

Expo highlights on Wednesday:

On Wednesday during the week long Ellis County Youth Expo Show and Sale, Jaclynn Lewis took the overall reserve champion award with her medium wool lamb.

Lacy Mott and Trevor Mott each earned 2nd’s in their respective classes showing Southdown lambs.

Katie Byers and John Byers both earned 2nd’s in class with their lambs. Katie was also one of the top 5 showmen in the Senior Showmanship class.

Megan Buchanan showed a goat while representing the Italy FFA.

Expo highlights on Thursday:

Thursday was the heifer and steer part of the show. Jacqualyn Crowley and “Cash,” was awarded breed champion and reserve grand champion in the Beefmaster class. Crowley, along with “Dutchie,” received American champion and and reserve grand champion in the Beefmaster class as well.

Bailey Eubank, representing Ellis County 4H, was awarded 1st in class with her British steer, “Raider.” Moments later, “Raider” returned to the show ring and walked out as grand champion.

Bailey Bumpus received 3rd in class with her heavyweight steer.

Ty Windham was awarded 5th in class with his heavyweight English steer and 2nd in class in the Ellis County Breeders division for being locally born and raised.

Russell Helms was awarded 1st in class with his European steer.

Clayton Campbell received 1st in class with his European steer as well. Campbell also received 4th in class with his European cross steer.

Matt Brummett was awarded 3rd in class in the European cross steer named “Daniels.” However, his European cross steer named “Jack,” won 2nd in class.

Brandon Souder received 4th in class with his European cross named “Whitey.”

David Garner was awarded 2nd in class with his Shorthorn.

Justin Wood received 5th in class with his middle weight swine entry.

Morgan Cockerham received 8th in class with her Euro cross swine entry.

Ella Hudson, Beau Bumpus and Taylor Souder each made a strong showing during Junior Showmanship.

As members of the Italy FCCLA, Sa’Kendra Norwood won best in show with her ‘Big mamma buttermilk pie,’ Destiny Anderson earned 2nd place with her Italian Cream Cake and Courtney Russell presented a no bake peanut butter and oatmeal cookies.

Michael “Taz” Martinez decided to name his swine “Drew,” in honor of recent Italy High School graduate, Drew Windham, who was at the Expo on Thursday and showed a swine last year.

Students will begin showing swine today at 2:00 p.m.

On Saturday, the Barbecue lunch starts at 11:30 p.m. and the sale begins at 1:00 p.m.
