The Easter Bunny made an appearance at the Upchurch Field on Saturday much to the delight of over 125 children of Italy. Special Delivery in the Italy Fire Department’s fire truck, E.B. came to help with the festivities. Hiding eggs is his specialty and this time was no different.

Over 6000 eggs were found by different age groups of children on Saturday morning at the Annual Mayor’s Easter Egg Hunt. Mayor Jackson was on hand to see smiles and candy colored teeth at the local baseball field. Donated gifts were given to children with special prize eggs.

Mayor Jackson said, “What a beautiful day to hunt eggs! This was a wonderful hunt.” All the prizes and candy were donated by the citizens of Italy. “We have had a wonderful time. The hunt was great! Keeping green is important,” smiled Ronda Cockerham, city employee, “we recycle the plastic eggs from year to year.” The kids were invited to dance together with the music of The Macarena, Cupid Shuffle, The Chicken Dance and, of course, The Bunny Hop.

The Italy police came to register bicycles and Police Chief Johns commented,“We do this every year and it was great.”

Each year the citizens are invited to donate prizes, candy and plastic eggs to help with the hunt. Along with all the fun, children’s names from each age group were drawn to win a prize.
