Felicia Burkhalter was very excited, happy and surprised to be selected as Employee of the Month. She said, “This is such an honor.”

Burkhalter works at Stafford Elementary as a library aid and has been working there for ten years. She explained, “Carolyn Maevers offered me this job. I was working at the Windham Hotel as a sales manager assistant working my way up to be director of sales. I had five children at the time so when Carolyn offered me the position I thought that would be more time to spend with my kids, I would be able to go to more of their games and school activities. So I took the job.”

She always wanted to be the director of sales and that was her goal when she was at the Windham Hotel. Burkhalter explained, “Once I came to work at the school my love for the kids just increased tremendously, so much so that I decided I wanted to go back to school and teach.”

She is currently attending A & M Commerce in Midlothian working on her teaching degree. She has about one and a half to two years of school left and hopes to teach second, third or fourth grade after she graduates.

Tammy Wallace (principal) said, “Felicia Burkhalter is dedicated to Stafford Elementary students, staff and community members. She works diligently to keep our library updated with materials, organized so that students enjoy visiting the library, and always works with a pleasant attitude and smile. She spends endless hours helping to plan fun activities for the kids, volunteering her time on committees, and is ready and willing to create a rigorous, yet enjoyable learning environment or all our children. Felicia is attending college classes right now to complete her degree and will become a teacher one day soon. She already serves that role well as our librarian, supporter, and all around helper in areas of need. Thank you Mrs. Burkhalter for the the fine job you do at Stafford Elementary.”

When asked how she liked working at Stafford Elementary, Burkhalter replied, “I love Stafford Elementary, I love this school, I wouldn’t want to teach anywhere else. My husband and I recently moved to Red Oak so I am commuting now but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love it here and this is where I want to teach when I finish school. I love the faculty, we are a family. We are just the Stafford family and we love the kids and work well together.”

She went on to say, “Each day I wake up I have the purpose of just making a difference in a child’s life. I just want to show them how much they are loved and how important they are. They are our future of tomorrow. I want them to know that they are loved and they can make it and the sky is the limit.”

Congratulations Felicia Burkhalter, we are glad you are here!
