1st Annual Summerfest in Italy
On Saturday, Italy hosted the 1st Annual Summerfest that included a snow cone vendor, as well as wonderful smoked BBQ. Turkey legs, sausage-on-a-stick and sandwiches were included on the Summerfest menu—all that and a bag of chips.
If you wandered around the city on Saturday, you might have noticed vendor booths up and down Main Street in front of the local businesses. In conjunction with the 26th Annual Tour d’Italia, the Summerfest began its history. Local coordinator, Judi Rowe, worked for several months gathering vendors and making plans to welcome our visitors and allow the locals to have fun as well. Booths were located at Italy High School and Main Street.
Churches took the opportunity to fund raise during the Summerfest. Boutiques, water filters, Scentsy candles and fresh baked goods were just some of the items for sale along the downtown area. Even the Italy Band Boosters sold BBQ sandwiches and baked goods to raise funds to begin the next school year.
Tour d’Italia, and now, Summerfest will be the third Saturday in June. Mark your calendars for June 2012.
