Mark Slaughter new administrator for Trinity Mission
Mark Slaughter found what he was looking for at Trinity Mission. Being from the small town of Eastland, Texas, he felt like he had come home. He has been the administrator since June 6th and loves his job and Trinity Mission.
Mark graduated from San Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. His degree is in psychology. Slaughter explained, “Strangely enough this degree is very helpful because you encounter lots and lots of different personalities. From the residents, to the families and to the employees. This degree is designed to help you deal with people and that is what this job is all about.”
“My motto is ‘we work in their home’. Slaughter went on to explain, “The resident’s home used to be in the community, they built families, they served in the military, they fought wars and had companies. Trinity Mission is now their home and we work in it everyday and if we remember this we will always do the right thing toward the residents. Employees here at Trinity Mission share this philosophy and we make sure of it when they are hired.”
Slaughter has always been an administrator for nursing homes. He said, “I have been very successful in my career not from the monetary standpoint but successful in knowing that the job that I took is often difficult because there are a lot of people out there that need some help for whatever reason and it is my job to find out how to help and when I do it is very satisfying.”
Before Trinity Mission, Mark’s career in nursing home administration was in crisis management. He went to nursing homes with problems. He developed a set of skills that allowed him to help in nursing homes that have clinical problems. Mark explained, “I learned a great deal through that process. It helped me to appreciate a home like this. This home has unbelievable longevity for its employees. When you enter the home you see the staff with smiles and you know they have been here over fifteen years. Places I have been really makes me appreciate being here in Italy at Trinity Mission. You have no idea how many homes need more help.”
Mark and his wife Leesa have two foster daughters and it makes their life very interesting, “To me it is the first time I have ever been a parent. Up until now I had been so involved in building my career it had not been a possibility. You learn something from them everyday and it is very rewarding.”
When asked what he thought of the community of Italy, Mark replied, “I like managing nursing homes in small towns. In small towns the families are more involved. The citizens of Italy have taken ownership of this facility and this makes life better for the residents. I appreciate this, it makes my job easier. I have not been here for very long but I have eaten at the Uptown Cafe a few times and it is very good. I already like Italy. I was raised in a small town about the size of Italy and I feel like I have come home.”
Welcome Mark Slaughter, we are glad you are here.
