Grandparents Day celebrated at Stafford Elementary
Grandparents Day is very special especially if you are a grandparent and there is nothing better than being one!
Marian McQuade (a housewife) saw the merit in Grandparents, she knew how special they were. She came up with the idea to set aside a day to encourage families to visit their elderly relatives. She was so intent to make this happen that she got through to her Senators, Jennings Randolph and Robert Byrd who introduced a resolution to make Grandparents Day a national holiday. In 1978, then-President Jimmy Carter signed the resolution.
Stafford Elementary also sees how special grandparents are and invited grandparents to have lunch with their grandchildren on Monday, September 12th, Grandparents Day. The cafeteria was over flowing with grandparents and laughter as students and grandparents shared lunch together.
Mary Kimmons was having lunch with her grandson Jacob Kimmons and said, “I am having a great lunch with Jacob and I made a pinky promise to be here and so I am here and am very glad that I came.”
Madelyn Chambers also had lunch with her grandmother and said, “It is Grandparents Day and I get to have lunch with my grandma.”
Another great day at Stafford Elementary!
