National Rehabilitation Awareness Week
National Rehabilitation Awareness Week was established in 1996 by Allied Services, This week long celebration (Sept. 18-24) is to salute the determination of millions of residents who confront disabilities as they live their daily lives. To say thanks to the thousands of rehabilitation professionals who help those in need learn to adapt or overcome their disabilities.
It’s mission is to educate people about benefits that are offered and to help those who are disabled live up to their fullest potential through rehabilitation.
At Trinity Mission this week was celebrated to the fullest. Everyday they had a different theme. Monday was “Hats off to Rehab” and everyone wore their favorite hat or cap. Even Lisa Marie (therapy dog) wore a bright pink hat!
Tuesday was “Speech therapy helps you problem solve your day” so everyone in the therapy department wore their clothes backwards.
Wednesday was “Occupational therapy helps you dress it up” so everyone wore silly socks and shoes.
Thursday was “Peace-Love-Exercise” and everyone wore tie dye shirts and peace signs. The therapy room was decorated in peace signs and bright colors.
Friday was “Physical therapy helps you get back in the game.” Everyone sported their favorite jersey and team shirts.
Darla Gardner (therapist) said, “We are celebrating National Rehabilitation Awareness Week. Everyday we are doing something special for each of the therapy departments.” She went on to say, “The residents are enjoying themselves getting dressed up with crazy hats, socks and bright colors according to the theme each day.”
Another great time at Trinity Mission.
